May Queen Crowned In Traditional Islands’ Ceremony

May Day 2013

Warm sunshine greeted this year’s May Day celebrations in The Park yesterday.

Watched by hundreds of family, friends and visitors, Jade Thomas was crowned May Queen in the traditional ceremony celebrating the islands and welcoming the start of spring.

She was entertained with folk dancing by the Orange and Nursery Classes while Yellow Class performed an unusual jazz number.

But it was the boys and girls of Years 5 and 6 that wowed the audience with their precise and intricate footwork around the maypole.

Teacher Kevin Leeman thanked the children and staff for weeks of hard work planning for the event as well as Elizabeth Legg and local flower growers for their stunning bouquets.
