May Day Celebrations Taking Place On St Mary’s And Tresco

mayday 2011The roads around The Park in Hugh Town will be closed for a couple of hours starting at 1.30pm today for the Five Islands School May Day celebrations.

It will still be possible to drive in and out of Hugh Town by using Silver Street and Buzza Street, using the road through Porthcressa Square.

The Council say that this is being done to ensure the safety of pedestrians and road users, due to the large numbers attending the May Day celebrations.

On St Mary’s, the celebrations start at 2.30pm and Jade Thomas will be crowned May Queen.

On Tresco, the service for Bryher and Tresco pupils is in the Abbey Gardens at 1.30pm and Eva Kearsley will be the Queen.
