Secondary school pupils at the Five Islands School have been given advice about boating and water safety around the islands and harbour.

St Mary’s Harbourmaster Dale Clark joined St Mary’s lifeboat station Coxswain, Stuart Hitchens yesterday lunchtime, as the men addressed the school assembly.

The talk was designed to encourage young people to stay safe on the water as summer approaches.

Dale says the recent tragedy in North Cornwall and the rescue of two St Agnes residents who were unprepared for a late night crossing would be discussed as examples of how things can go wrong on the water.
