No Influence Over Cruise Excursions Says Harbourmaster

St Mary’s Harbourmaster says his team don’t have any say over where cruise ships take their passengers.

Dale Clark has responded to social media comments voicing disappointment that Bryher has not been chosen for cruise ship excursions this year. Dale says the harbour team do advise cruise directors and give information on all of the islands, but the operators make their itinerary decisions up to a year in advance.

Last year the Island Sky did take passengers to Bryher and there will be some trips to St Martin’s this year. St Agnes excursions are also growing in popularity.

But Tresco and St Mary’s remain the favourite destinations, says Dale.

He says they have been encouraging cruise companies to stay anchored here overnight so their passengers can see more of the islands.

Some American visitors were intent on going to Bryher, and did catch the local boat. Now I was always of the opinion that price was not a problem to them. I was surprised to hear from one group that the £14 Ploughmans at one establishment left them speechless, but the pasty from the local Post Office ticked all the right boxes.
