Rotary Fun Day Set For Bank Holiday Monday

rotary funday aug 2011A fund which can assist islanders with financial support for educational or sporting trips will be boosted through the Rotary Club Fun Day on Monday 27th May.

For the first time, cash raised by this year’s event on Holgate’s Green will be split between Rotary and their women’s section, the Inner Wheel.

Each individual group will get to decide where money is spent.

Organiser Chris Peat says there will be dancing from islands’ youngsters who have been coached by Lesley Thomas and singing from the female choir, Scilly Sirens.

Richard Chiverton will be taking bets on the traditional chicken races and there’ll also be a variety of food stalls, including a barbecue and the Rotary’s renowned doughnut stand.

Chris says the Rotary Club would be grateful for some more assistance in arranging the five-hour show, which starts at midday, as they are, “just about on the limits” in volunteer numbers.

And he says he’ll be watching the weather forecast closely. The perfect conditions would be an overcast morning to discourage St Mary’s residents and visitors going off-island, followed by sunny weather from lunchtime.
