Islands’ Partnership Holding St Mary’s Meeting

islands partnership logoThe Islands’ Partnership, which assumed responsibility for tourism organisation and promotion last year, will outline its vision for boosting visitor numbers tonight and answer questions from islanders working within the tourism sector.

There has been some criticism voiced over the new public and private sector organisation, which took over from Island Tourism and Island Marketing 18 months ago.

Some locals claim the partnership has been slow to drive forward promotion of Scilly and their efforts have offered nothing new or original.

But Joint Manager Amanda Pender says the group will explain what they’ve been doing to get the message about Scilly out there.

Amanda shares her management role with marketing guru Dave Meneer, whose mainland company Wolf Rock was successful in winning the Partnership’s promotional contract.

The recent road shows on the off-islands went well, she says, and attendees were grateful that the Partnership took the time to talk to them. And people wanted to know more about next year’s brochure and how the Simply Scilly website works.

Tonight’s final event gives St Mary’s businesspeople a chance to hear what the partnership has been doing on their behalf and Amanda says locals should attend so they can hear how hard the Partnership has been working.

She says they’re focussed on a whole range of marketing initiatives involving traditional channels like newspaper articles as well as social media.

The Partnership has operated with an interim board, appointed in February 2012 and this evening, islanders will hear from current Chairman Chris Gregory how they can nominate themselves or others to drive the organisation forward.

The meeting is at the Church Hall at 5.30pm.
