Budding Writers Getting Advice On St Agnes Today

St Agnes residents will receive tips and advice on creative writing today when professional playwright and scriptwriter Paul Dodgson will be sharing the secrets of his trade.

Paul has held a number of classes in Scilly over the years but today’s event at the Reading Room will be his first on an off-island, and he says there are enough would-be writers on the island to fill the session.

Paul says many islanders seem interested in developing their skills for writing memoirs and the level of interest may be down to our closed-knit community. He finds many stories here are interlinked, with the memories of one person often triggering recollections in another, because the geography is often shared.

And Paul says he’s keen to use the sights and sounds of St Agnes to inspire today’s exercises by getting people to focus on their surroundings.

Paul’s session has been made possible following support from the Concertina Trust and has been organised by islander Rose Bird.
