The history and scenery of St Mary’s are to feature in a series of walking tours starting today.

Volunteer tour guide, George Tiedeman, hopes to highlight the attractions and heritage of the archipelago’s largest island.

And while Will Wagstaff’s walks remain popular with wildlife lovers, George thinks St Mary’s stories and landscapes are being overlooked as visitors head straight for the off-islands.

All the profits will go to the Children’s Hospice South West appeal. They’ve recently completed construction of the Little Haven facility near St Austell and George says it’s important to keep its profile high and encourage donations, as running costs exceed £1m annually.

The first tour, around 90 minutes in length, will run from 1.45pm today.
