Visitors Treated To Impromptu Concert

music terry ward arkwrights tillsMusic from the Beatles and Rolling Stones drew a crowd in Hugh Town yesterday as four islands’ musicians put on a mini concert, raising cash for the Bring Judy Home fund.

Businessman Terry Ward sang vocals and was backed by Dave Sherris, Steve Sherris and Gaz O’Neill during the hour-long gig.

It’s two years since the Steam Band hosted a similar impromptu gig at the side of 49 Degrees and Terry says the group, called ‘The Arkwright’s Tills,’ a reference to the temperamental shop on TV comedy ‘Open all Hours’ will do the same next year.

It went well and drew a crowd but Terry says they’ll rehearse for longer next time as they ended up performing some songs three or four times. And unlike most outdoor rock events on the mainland, half way through the set, a golf buggy driven by locals singing the songs drove past.

Well done those men. Great cause, but also a great advert for the solidarity of the community, coming together to celebrate a great weekend and show the visitors that we’re a cracking set of people as well.
