Orchard Open For Community To Enjoy, Say Volunteers

trenoweth community orchardResidents and visitors are being invited to enjoy the Community Orchard at Trenoweth.

Transition Scilly volunteer, Imogen Bone, who helped establish and maintain the orchard, said it’s now becoming well established, with a range of trees including Scilly Pearl apples, pears, soft fruits and nuts.

The group are holding an event on May 11th to mark the opening of the orchard for the season.

Schoolchildren will be flying bee-shaped kites that they’ve made for the event and the Brownies have made paper flowers containing seeds that can be planted.

The orchard has been enhanced with a new sign, benches and a special memorial stone.

Imogen says the orchard is a wonderful, sheltered spot and ideal for a picnic.

She’s hoping that the opening event will raise awareness of the orchard and that people who use the facility might donate a couple of hours of their time to help with the routine maintenance work.
