One of Britain’s most dedicated bell ringers has been in Scilly this week.

Kate Flavell is President of the Central Council of Bell Ringers, a UK-wide group that represents and encourages ringing groups.

She’s rung over half of Britain’s 5,000 church bells and her trip to the islands is a return visit.

She first rang the Parish Church peal in 2009, when she attended the dedication with the Bishop shortly after they were installed.

Kate says the St Mary’s bells are lovely to ring and “sound gorgeous.” She says they’re easy to handle and are ideal for young people to learn on.

Kate and her husband Paul were asked to help with the ringing on two occasions during this visit.

Paul stood-in at a 45 minute continuous ‘quarter peal’ on Tuesday to mark St George’s day and the couple also helped out at bell ringing practise on Wednesday.
