New Book Highlights Quirks Of Scilly’s Twitchers

birdwatchers 2A new book highlighting the quirks and behaviours of the birdwatchers who flock to Scilly has gone on sale.

Simon Davey has just published ‘Scilly Birding – Joining the Madding Crowd.’

Simon first came to Scilly as a birdwatcher in the 1990s and says his interest quickly switched from looking at the birds to people watching.

Simon Davey talks about his new book

The Isles of Scilly often offers birdwatchers something that they never see on the mainland and the adrenalin rush of spotting something new can become addictive, says Simon.

There has been a big decline in the numbers of twitchers visiting Scilly since the crowds of the 80’s, but Simon feels that we could see those massive numbers again.

He says a lot of rare birds have been going further north to Fair Isle and Shetland, which isn’t good for Scilly, but thinks that’s a trend that may change.

Simon’s book is available now at bookshops and online at Amazon.
