Fundraising Success For Hospital League Of Friends

hospital 4St Mary’s Community and Hospital League of Friends say that 2013 will be a low-key year for fundraising and they are not planning any coffee mornings.

But locals who attend their annual general meeting this Wednesday will hear of their success during 2012.

The club has spent £12,300 on supporting families and residents and they’ve funded vital medical equipment, including a machine to monitor patients on the blood thinning drug warfarin.

Funds have come from donations in memory of islanders, fundraising dinners and £650 from the Atlantic hotel coffee mornings.

The biggest boost came from Sarah Twynham and Kylie Carter’s sponsored cycle ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End, which brought in £1,637.

The Sunday night quiz at the Scillonian Club raised a further £1,612.

The League is planning a flag day on June 6th, which may be combined with sales of cream teas.

Committee member Jenny Byers says the group also has a say on healthcare issues through Healthwatch, the dial-a-ride service and the Council Health and Wellbeing board.

Their AGM is at 7pm on Wednesday at Park house and locals can join for £1.
