Tresco Paying For Airport Makeover

airport skybus check inTresco Estate is paying for the re-upholstery of furniture and floral displays at St Mary’s airport.

The offer was accepted at last month’s meeting of the Airport Management Group.

Alasdair Moore, speaking on behalf of Tresco, said the airport is the first and last bit of Scilly experienced by many visitors and Robert and Lucy Dorrien Smith were delighted to have the opportunity to contribute.

Alasdair said the Isles of Scilly are all about community and helping each other.

“We all need to do whatever we can to make the islands as welcoming as possible to our visitors. Whether it’s improving the upholstery at the airport or simply picking up some litter on a beach, we can all do our bit,” he added.

The Council said they are very appreciative of the help offered by Tresco Estate regarding reupholstering chairs together with planting, floral displays and the possibility of the loan of artwork.

“We welcome the involvement of principal stakeholders in initiatives such as this in improving the experience of the travelling public,” they said.

The Airport Management Meeting also noted that the terminal was looking “much tidier and cleaner” but said some of the signage needs updating.

This is all so wrong, why have Tresco taken no interest in it before?they’re just tarting it up for their own posh visitors who already have their own separate transport from the airport to Tresco, its like our own scilly apartheid system, the heliport on tresco is finished so their taking over the St Marys airport, this is wrong on so many counts I’m amazed that Cllr Bennett has allowed this.
