No Danger From Discoloured Water

tapIf your water appears yellow, there’s no need to be concerned. Work on the mains supply through Hugh Town yesterday caused discolouration.

Council press officer George Pearson says air entering the system would have moved some of the iron oxide, or rust, within the pipes.

He says there’s no health risk and it should disappear very quickly if you run the taps for a few minutes.

It is likely the water may appear yellowed again when the Buzza reservoir is re-commissioned in a few weeks. The inside of the tank is being re-lined to remove a leak that has prevented it being completely filled since 1924.

The work is part of a £1.5m Defra grant to improve the St Mary’s supply.
