High-ranking police officers from the mainland are expected to attend the funeral today of the chairman of the islands’ Council, Mike Hicks.

Mike served on the former Police Authority and campaigned for an increase in St Mary’s staffing to four full time staff.

Deputy chief constable of Devon and Cornwall, David Zinzan, will be the highest-ranking officer present. He’ll joined by inspector Jean Phillips who covers our islands from St Ives.

The police crime commissioner’s office will be represented by their treasurer, Duncan Bolton.

All of Scilly’s policing team will be paying their respects.

St Mary’s police are asking motorists to exercise caution as dozens of locals and visitors are expected to walk over the hill from the Parish Church to Old Town Church following Mike’s funeral, which starts at 1pm.
