Islands Partnership Appointing ‘Food And Drink Champion’

The Islands Partnership is hiring a new employee to search out and sample the best food and drink in Scilly, and feed back findings to the tourism body’s bosses.

It’s thought that local produce is becoming a bigger visitor draw, based on Cornwall’s experience. And the mainland neighbouring county is being offered as an example of what Scilly could achieve in food success.

Dave Meneer from the Islands Partnership says the ‘food and drink champion’ will be paid for 20 hours a week to find ways to heighten the profile of food and produce providers here.

He says they’ll be expected to find out what’s available on the islands and also suggest interesting food ideas.

Dave Meneer talks about the new food champion role

There are no targets, milestones or goals specified for the role, except they’ll need to encourage businesses to strive for excellence. He wants to see more local companies winning prizes at regional events like the Cornwall Tourism Awards.

The closing date is April 10th and you can find out more by emailing jbagnall@duchyofcornwall.org or on  422508.

Suggest David starts with the last Local Food Directory and updates that. The AONB last produced one in 2008, maybe they could help out again and save Island Partnership some time and money.
I also recall that Sophie Hughes helped the Islands win a Local food Award a few years ago, hopefully her expertise and local knowledge in this field will be called upon.

No mention of the wages – or do I have to pay you ?

I’ll do it for relocation and expenses – happy days

It always amuses me when positions like this get called ‘Champion’. A few years ago when we had Richard Wilcox, Tourism Champion, did that make Steve Watt Tourism Runner-up?
