Council Gets Money To Help Disabled Islanders

hugh town from garrisonThe Council is getting £11,717 from the government to help disabled islanders continue to live in their own homes.

Housing Minister Mark Prisk announced the funding for housing modifications like wider doorways, stair lifts and level access showers.

The Town Hall has confirmed that the money will go towards the Council’s Adult Social Care budget but it’s unclear how the cash will actually be used.

Scilly’s Council does offer a handyperson scheme, which aims to enable independent living. It was set to end next year when the funds, which stood at £53,000 in February, eventually run out.
