St Agnes To Feature On Prime-Time French Travel Show

st agnes porth congerSt Agnes will be seen by up to 1.5m French people when it’s featured on the country’s Channel 5 later this month.

The island will appear in an edition of the popular French travel show, ‘Beautiful Escapes’ which goes out at prime time on Saturday evenings.

The 90-minute programme, which goes out on 20th April, focuses on the south west of England and a film crew spent time last week filming on St Agnes.

Sophie Vernet from Channel 5 says they wanted to capture daily life on the island, including food deliveries arriving on the quay, flower farming and quiz night at the Turk’s Head.

She says they chose St Agnes because it’s “the end of the end of England,” although she says when she arrived, she felt that it was somewhere very different from the mainland, with “beautiful weather and blue sea.”

Sophie says the Isles of Scilly aren’t very well known to most French people, outside of Brittany, but hopes that the film will encourage more French people to visit.

The show will air on 20th April and will be available on the internet the following day.
