Youngsters on the islands will have a chance to learn how to juggle, walk the tight rope and ride a unicycle next week. And there’ll be a chance for mums and dads to join in too.

The Carn Thomas Youth Hub team have organised a series of circus skills workshops, delivered by Wez Swain from Circus Stars, who is a regular visitor to the Islands.

Sessions will be tailored for each age group from 5 to 18 years old, although Helen McGuiness says past experience with similar workshops on Scilly four years ago shows the younger children are often the quickest to pick up the tricky techniques.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 9.30am to 11.30am, there’ll be sessions for 5 to 7 year olds, with primary aged children, aged 8 to 11 years, having their own workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

Secondary aged youngsters, aged 11 to 16 years, get their chance on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Even adults can get involved in a Family Session taking place from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday evening, and there’s a special session at the same time on Thursday evening for older youngsters, aged 16-18.

Helen says they hope to add some more technical skills, like fire juggling in that workshop.

Costs range from £5 to £7.50 per day depending on the session length, while the family workshop is free to attend.
