MP Disappointed Over Rescue Chopper Move To Newquay

culdrose rescue helicopterScilly’s MP says the relocating of Search and Rescue services from RNAS Culdrose to Newquay Airport is, “a bitter disappointment.”

Yesterday the government awarded the 10-year, £1.6bn contract to American company Bristow. It means that the military rescues will end by 2017.

Andrew George says he has concerns that incidents in the Western Approaches, up to 250 miles West of Scilly, would not receive the same level of service from a Newquay base.

But he accepts that the S92 helicopters that will be deployed are viewed as superior to the current Sea Kings.
