Scilly Folk Festival Starts Tomorrow

scilly folk festival 2012The Fifth Scilly Folk Festival starts tomorrow at St Mary’s Hall Hotel.

The event is mixing mainland performers with the best talent the islands have to offer.

The first session features visiting singer-songwriters, Lampliter and The Little Unsaid with talented islands singer Jamie Lock supporting them. She impressed many locals at the recent ‘Scilly’s Got Talent.’

On Thursday at the Methodist Church, regular visitors to Scilly, Cornish folk band Dalla, will join forces with St Mary’s musician Chris Lethbridge.

Organiser Roz Hicks says Chris has written some amazing songs about the islands and says this should be a very special evening.

Roz wants to dispel any preconceptions people may have about folk music being old-fashioned. She says it’s very up-to-date and the acts chosen mix many music styles that will appeal widely.

Not all the events are music based. On Sunday evening Cornish storyteller Will Coleman will be entertaining the audience at the museum. He’ll draw stories from the artefacts there for a very unusual performance.

Details of all the events are on the festival website.
