Folk Artist Martin Carthy Plays Scilly Gigs

martin CarthyOne of Britain’s most influential folk musicians, who performed in Scilly for the first time at the weekend, says he wants to return for more concerts.

Martin Carthy is known for inspiring artists like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. He’s widely credited for the arrangement to Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘Scarborough Fair.’

He was invited over by St Martin’s musician Warren Neil, who has been working to bring more artists to the islands to raise Scilly’s musical profile.

Martin performed on St Martin’s and at the Old Town Inn at the weekend.

He’s says he’s wanted to visit the islands for years after staying in Botallack in Cornwall and seeing the islands “like a scattering of jewels on the horizon.”

“It’s as beautiful as I thought it would be,” says Martin, who was impressed by his visit to St Martin’s.
