The Right Reverend Tim Thornton, Bishop of Truro

The Bishop of Truro has announced a three-day pastoral visit to the islands.

During the trip, the Right Reverend Tim Thornton, will carry out what’s thought to be the first confirmations on Bryher.

Canon Paul Miller says he can’t find any record of the service at All Saints Church as they’ve always been held on Tresco. Seven islanders will be confirmed in the ceremony, which enables a baptised person to confirm the promises made on their behalf at baptism.

Canon Miller says the Bishop will spend a full day on St Martin’s during the visit from 10th June, as that island has had a difficult time with the hotel and pub closure and he wants to offer support to residents.

The Bishop will also tour all of the off-island school bases.
