Sports Event Launches New Careers Service For Scilly

careers southwest logo 1An evening of sporting events is being held in the sports hall tonight to officially launch a careers resource that will be hosted there.

Careers South West have set up a permanent kiosk, which allows school pupils and adults who are uncertain about their potential career path to find suitable employment.

The unit, which some people have mistaken for a cash point, asks users about skills and interests to suggest suitable vocations.

A sports event, featuring football, dodgeball and dance is being held for adults and school pupils in year 9 to launch the service tonight. There will be free T-shirts and prizes for competitors.

Tim Moody from Careers South West has worked with Five Island School pupils and Truro College for five years. He says our islands youngsters need support because there is no post-16 education here and they have to make major life choices earlier than their mainland contemporaries.

Tim and his team will be on hand to help from 5pm to 7pm, when children age 13 and over can go along, and from 7pm to 9pm, when the general community can also attend.
