The Five Islands School building has won another design award. It’s the third and most prestigious win so far and Exeter-based Grainge Architects say it is, “the final icing on the cake.”

The firm has been commended in the National Civic Trust Awards hed in Cardiff earlier this month. These recognise outstanding architecture that improves the quality of life for local communities.

Tony Pollitine from Grainge says the way in which the school fits into the landscape was commended. And gaining silver was quite an achievement against strong competition.

Tony says previous awards were regional, so this latest award is all the more special because it covers the whole country and they were up against large projects like the Olympic Velodrome.

1000 national judges assessed over 260 applications to produce around 80 winners.
