The owners of St Mary’s new luxury campsite have bought seven gig oars to use as name boards for their tents.

Jon May, who has started the new business at Peninnis with his son Dan, says he wanted a distinctive, Scillonian way of identifying each unit.

St Mary’s gig club recently sold paddles as a fundraiser and Jon says they’ve named the units Bonnet, Czar, Golden Eagle Shah, Nornour, Serica and Dolphin. They were keen to feature a boat from each island.

Jon says he hopes that the oars will give visitors extra interest in the gig rowing and encourage people to cheer for the gig that shares the name of their accommodation.
