Successful Weekend For Scilly’s Footballers

football Garrison Field sign 2It’s been a successful weekend for the eighteen islands footballers who have gone on their annual tour to Cornwall.

On Saturday, St Mary’s Football Club drew 4-4 against mainland side Dynamo Choughs on the artificial pitch at Mounts Bay Academy.

But it looked like the islanders would be without a game on Sunday after the field at Porthleven was waterlogged. Mark Twynham says they played the Choughs again and won 6-3.

16-year-old Dan Evans was awarded man of the match for both fixtures.

The Choughs will now visit Scilly in May. They play for the world’s smallest trophy, the Lyonesse Cup, and organiser Mark Twynham says they are keen to play members of the world’s smallest league.
