Scilly’s School Announces New Head

The Five Islands School

The Five Islands School

The new head teacher of the Five Islands School will be Linda Todd.

Mrs Todd is currently in her second headship at Broomfield Primary School in Chelmsford and she will start at the Five Islands School in September.

She has been teaching for 25 years and tells us she has a, “passion for education.” Linda has been a head teacher for 15 of those years.

Her area of expertise is primary education and she has a specialism in English. Mrs Todd had requested that the governors did not make her name public until she told her current employers.

In a statement, the governing body says Mrs Todd has an excellent track record in school improvement, already having led two schools out of the ‘satisfactory’ Ofsted category.

She also has experience in an all-through school, covering the ages 3 to 16, similar to ours, although this was in Singapore.

Chairman of governors Ben Julian says Mrs Todd was recognised as an exceptional candidate in every task by almost all stakeholders involved in the 4-day interview process.

Only the Student Council didn’t choose her as their preferred candidate as they thought she may be a little too strict. Ben says the governors took this as a positive sign.

Mrs Todd says he is looking forward to a new way of life for herself and her family in a beautiful location. She is looking forward to becoming a part of the community and the staff, governors and children have already made her feel very welcome.

She will be relocating to Scilly with her husband, two young boys and Jack Russell dog.

She told Radio Scilly that the Five Islands School is clearly a very good school with the potential to be outstanding and she feels privileged to have been appointed to lead it on the next stage of its journey.
