Two of Scilly’s army cadets have been selected to represent the South West regions in the organisation’s national rugby trials in Wales next month.

Last weekend, Corporal Lewis Johnson and Corporal Alun Anderson took the pitch at Yeovilton, where Lewis and Alun were picked after several games.

Cadets’ leader Tony Smith says they will compete against Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland Cadets at a very high level.

Lewis, Alun and Sergeant Joe Sibley have already been chosen to play for the county.

Tony is back at the helm of the popular youth group after recent illness.

He told Radio Scilly that group numbers have fallen while he has been away and he wants to get them back up to strength again.

Any youngsters aged over 12 can join and Tony says he’d welcome applications from girls as well as boys.

Later this month is a five-day junior camp at RAF St. Mawgan for all new cadets. The group also has another expedition to Dartmoor planned in June, and their two-week annual summer camp will be in North Devon.
