Lifeboat bosses are happy with operations at St Mary’s lifeboat station and say they don’t need to make any significant changes.

Officials from the RNLI visited the station for its 5-year review, last week.

Press officer Steve Watt says the mainland visitors were impressed with the turn out as virtually the entire crew came to the meeting on Tuesday evening.

The volunteers had a chance to quiz officials over national policy and operations.

Steve says the questions ranged from the possibility of getting a few more life jackets to the options for a different boarding boat from the big, heavy one that occasionally rolls down the slipway.

The most amusing comment though was about the small portions of food served up at the RNLI college in Poole after a hard days training.

Steve says the visiting chiefs promised to take the comments back to HQ.
