New Committee Members For Scilly Sailing Club

sailing clubThere are some new members on the Scillonian Sailing Club committee following their AGM.

Celia Hicks and Be Coombes were voted on at Wednesday’s meeting held at the Old Town Inn. It follows the resignation of Clare Lewis, Becky Pearson and Truan Hick.

The meeting was held earlier than usual to ensure a good start to the sailing season. Club Commodore, Mark Underwood, told Radio Scilly it was, “the healthiest turn out for a number of years.”

The Club’s race evenings will continue on Thursdays and Mark says they plan to reintroduce adult beginner and improver sessions on Saturday afternoons to coincide with afternoon open racing, general sailing and Redwing fleet racing.

There’ll be a charge of £2 for junior sailing sessions to ensure that the sufficient number of quality instructors can be offered during the height of season, but Mark says the club’s membership fees have been frozen at 2012 rates.

As the season gets underway, there’s a call for all members to help with the first spring working party, taking place at the club a week tomorrow, Saturday 16th March, starting at 1pm.
