Tourism Partnership Asks Businesses To ‘Pull Together’ For Walk Scilly 2013

walkers on strandIslands businesses with their own facebook pages are being asked to do their bit to promote the seventh year of the islands’ walking festival.

It’s the first year that Walk Scilly is being organised by the Tourism Partnership having previously been operated by Euan Rodger, the Council and a community committee.

Amanda Pender from the Tourism Partnership says everyone needs to “pull together” to make the event a success.

Amanda says that walking has grown as an activity and there is an appetite for walking festivals, but this year new, additional events have been planned to showcase more activities in Scilly.

For the first time there’ll be horse-riding and cycling sessions, promoted as Horse Scilly and Cycle Scilly and arranged with Claire Morley and Mark Prebble.

There’ll be more local guides this year too. 14 of the 17 walk leaders are based here and Amanda feels that visitors will enjoy walks where locals show off the areas that they love.

The week-long event starts on March 23rd and runs to Good Friday. It includes 24 walks, both short and long, heritage walks and wildlife walks that Amanda says will showcase our fantastic landscape.

Journalist Martin Hesp is set to write a two-page article in the Western Morning News to promote the event.

Full details of the walks are now available at the Hugh Town Tourist Information Centre and on the Simply Scilly Website. A 28-page programme will be available later this week.
