Concern Over Community Safety Partnership Money For Scilly

The new police and crime commissioner for Devon and Cornwall, Tony Hogg, should be reminded that Scilly is a separate authority to Cornwall or Devon when he visits at the end of this month.

Cllr David Pearson told members of the Policy and Resources committee of his funding concerns after the grant for community safety work has ceased.

The Community Safety Partnership has funded projects that David calls, “vital tasks.”

It worked with the police, health service, fire service and the Council on projects that met locals’ needs.

The effort to reduce noise made by people leaving pubs was part of this. Beermats, posters and beer glasses featuring the ‘Sssh’ campaign slogan formed part of that campaign.

Recently funding has been used to improve the Strand shelter.

Councillors have heard that the grant system will now apply to the entire region and they won’t know whether Scilly will have an allocation until later this month. Mike Hicks told Councillor Pearson he would make sure Scilly was, “on the radar” during the visit on March 27th.
