Scilly Handyman Service Will Cease

town hall windows signThe Council’s Handyperson scheme will continue until next year but is likely to end sometime in 2014 when the grant money runs out.

Community Services chairman Richard McCarthy warned that it is a “finite budget.” There should be £53,000 left in the allocation for the on-going service by the end of next month.

Richard told members that take-up has been lower than expected with 71 jobs undertaken over a 9-month period.

The scheme is meant to aid independent living for disabled islanders or the over-60s. It has been extended to include extensive gardening, cleaning gutters, window cleaning and ‘odd jobs.’

The fees will stay the same for the next year to encourage more users.
