wesleyan chapel 2The work of the Council’s Adult Services team has been commended by Councillors.

Cllr Richard McCarthy said their achievements were a, “pretty impressive list.” On 217 occasions last year, the Council’s gave elderly or disabled islanders advice, arranged the fitting of panic buttons or provided concessionary fares.

Director of Community Service, Penny Penn-Howard said these were people who need a little bit of help, “to make their life work for them.”

It was, she said, a preventative service.

Jeanette Persich told councillors that 21 new people had received an assessment to see what care packages or benefits they were eligible for.

Ten people including two off-island residents had received financial help to purchase logs, coal and help towards their electricity bills over this current financial quarter with a winter wellbeing payment.

Live-in overnight respite care had been offered for two carers so they could get a break and eighteen direct payments had been made to carers.

Penny praised the staff who had kept the service running during the move of their office to the hospital.
