Eight separate businesses are set to compete for the three new workshops that the Council has built on Porthcressa. And the successful applicants could be opening their doors by April.

Diana Mompoloki says there’s been a wide range of interest from office-based business to food producers. Some of the potential tenants went to look around earlier this month although not everyone attended.

Some are new businesses whilst some are home-based operations that want to expand.

Takeaways or pure retail units won’t be considered.

Diana says applicant business plans will now be studied to assess which three are most viable and what fits with the funder’s priorities. Diana says she’s encouraged by the response and it shows there’s interest in affordable workspaces where the rent is set by the District Valuer, who sets all the rents for the Council.

Proposals for more units, in an innovation centre at Porthmellon, are currently with funders.
