Theatre Club To Perform Aykbourn Play

theatre town hallSt Mary’s Theatre Club has chosen its summer play.

This year’s production will be Alan Aykbourn’s ‘Absurd Person Singular,’ documenting the changing fortunes of three couples over three successive Christmases.

But the venue for this year’s performances remains unclear, as work to refurbish the Town Hall will be underway during the season.

Barrie Nutall has been liaising with chief planner Craig Dryden and he told club members that the work is likely to start at the end of March and last ten weeks.

Theatre Club chair Tom Scott says they’re still hoping to use the Town Hall but are planning to delay the opening night to the end of June to ensure that the works are completed.

They’ll be using alternative premises for some rehearsals while the works take place.

However, the club are working to locate and book a suitable venue for the One Act Play Festival, taking place in May as part of Art Scilly Week. They have several options available, including the Parish Church.

Tom says the club fully supports the Council in improving the facilities for staff and users and they look forward to seeing the final outcome.
