The transport action group, Friends of Isles of Scilly Transport, is encouraging islanders standing for Council to share their views on travel problems and solutions.

FRIST is campaigning for what they term year-round reliable transport at rates similar to those enjoyed by Scottish islanders.

They are putting pressure on candidates to outline where they stand as FRIST intend to publish details of prospective candidates’ stance on travel issues, ahead of May’s Council elections. A recent email to supporters also encourages them to “stand for election” to make a difference.

FRIST, which includes Councillor Marian Bennett as a key member, has been critical of the extent of the Council’s involvement in travel issues. The Town Hall has argued that the authority is legally limited in what it can do.

FRIST is pushing for a meeting with the steamship company and also intends meeting with the Council on February 11th.
