The Steamship Company has apologised to the two passengers on board the cargo vessel, the Gry Maritha, after they were unable to disembark on Monday night.

The boat was caught by a gust of wind, which pushed her away from the quay, grounding her in St Mary’s harbour.

The boat stayed in that position, resting on the harbour bed, until the wind dropped and ropes could be used to aid her ashore. That was at 3am yesterday.

The company say the vessel often berths with little water under the keel and, as the seabed there is soft, there are no concerns about damage.

Freight was not affected.
