NHS To Run Consultation Session On Dementia Care

hospital 4If you have opinions or concerns over dementia care you’re being invited to an NHS consultation next week.

On Wednesday 16th January, staff from the regional NHS trust that specialises in mental health, the Cornwall Foundation Trust, will be meeting locals at the Methodist Church Hall from 1pm.

Consultant psychiatrist Giles Richards, says his team want to make sure that dementia services are fit for the future.

There are plans for devoted primary care dementia practitioners across the region, who will be able to support patients and families.

They’ll visit all GP practices regularly, including our Health Centre, although they won’t be based here full-time. Giles says it’s a chance for patients to have a single point of contact over a long period of time and will offer a more proactive way to review their care.

Some islanders are concerned that people living with dementia here have had to move to the mainland for care.

Giles says the specialist will be here in Scilly and will try to intervene and prevent problems escalating so residents can remain on the islands for as long as possible.

And he says the consultation next week will be a chance for all those who are interested to air their views and concerns.
