Council Offering Free Health And Safety Seminar To Businesses

If you run a business in Scilly and need help and advice on health and safety legislation, the Council is encouraging you to attend a free seminar on Wednesday 30th January.

Assistant Resilience Lead, Jemma Gilmour, says the informal session is aimed at businesses with five or more employees, although if there’s space anyone can come along.

She says it’s suitable for anyone, from people just starting out in this area, through to those looking for a quick refresher on the rules and regulations and the idea is to make the whole area, “less scary and hard work” for business owners and their employees.

The consultant, Michael Cash, is coming to Scilly the day before to provide a training day for Council employees, which is why they’ve been able to offer the free session to locals.

Jemma talks about the upcoming health and safety seminar

Jemma admits that the legislation can seem quite restrictive at times but hopes the seminar can dispel some of the myths associated with health and safety legislation.

And she says they’ve been able to tailor it to the islands with a particular focus on the hotel and restaurant industries.

If you would like to attend or send a member of their staff you should contact Jemma on 424811 or email emergencyplanning@scilly.gov.uk and she’ll provide details of time and venue.

It’s nice to see the council encouraging health and safety in the business community. I hope more follow suit.
