Tickets Go On Sale For Scilly’s New Sports Awards

sports awards 2012Tickets for the islands’ first Sports Personality Awards dinner go on sale today.

The event will recognise islanders, living or no longer with us, who have made a difference to sport in Scilly as players, trainers or even making teas or looking after the equipment.

The ticket money raised will fund the Adam Mallon Sporting Appeal, which helps pay for islands’ schoolchildren who need to travel to the mainland for sports training or competitive sport.

The evening will be hosted by Mark Twynham, Martin Songhurst and Jim Johnson.

Mark says they decided against bringing in guest speakers as there won’t be time, due to all the awards they have to get through and they also want as much money as possible to go towards the appeal.

Mark Twynham talks about how to get tickets for the event

The last award, for Lifetime Achievement, will be announced at the end of the night and will be the most prestigious of the evening. He says this will recognise someone who’s put in time and effort to sport in Scilly over a long period of time.

Mark hopes they can bring in at least £1,000 for the fund, both from ticket sales and sponsorship from local businesses.

The price for the three-course charity dinner, to be held at St Mary’s Hall Hotel on January 26th is £30 a head and you can only buy them at the sports hall.

As there are just 80 spaces, you can’t reserve tickets and they have to be paid for when you pick them up.
