Residents of Jackson’s Hill may be without power occasionally today.

Radio Scilly, which is powered by the same substation, could also be liable to interruption.

A team of specialist engineers from Western Power are flying over to deal with an underground electrical fault that started at New Year. It’s thought that water may have entered a three-phase cable.

The problem has worsened as residents returned after the holidays. Homes there are being fed with a temporary supply.

It’s taken a while to bring over the mainland team as they have been unable to find flights and the four Western Power helicopters have been unable to fly from Bristol due to fog.

St Mary’s power station manager Ritchie Christopher says the electricity could be off for around two hours.

He’s grateful to residents for their understanding and says his company will repair any excavations and damage.
