Shooting Trip For Star Castle Visitors

A group of regular visitors to the Star Castle Hotel enjoyed a trip to the St Mary’s Sporting Club on The Garrison over the weekend for their traditional shooting competition.

The holidaymakers spent two hours at the range learning how to use the small bore Winchester rifles in a precision shooting competition.

Star Castle Hotel manager, James Francis, said many of the visitors come to stay year after year and the popular shooting competition provides a fun diversion at a time of year when many activities aren’t possible due to the weather or businesses being closed.

The Star Castle is one of the few hotels in Scilly to open over the festive period.

James said the annual competition has even inspired people to continue with the sport. One member of the group first learnt to shoot here five years ago and enjoyed it so much he joined a local club on his return home.

The Sporting Club gives locals and visitors a chance to try shooting and archery and has a thriving membership, including a large group of enthusiastic young islanders.
