Pub Landlord Looking For New Year’s Eve Door Staff

The Atlantic Inn

The landlord of a St Mary’s pub says he’ll have to close earlier than normal on New Year’s Eve if he can’t find door supervisors.

Barry Davey of the Atlantic Inn has been trying to find door staff for weeks, to no avail. He says his license allows him to open until 12am and he’s still hoping that somebody will come forward at the eleventh hour so revellers won’t have to leave on the stroke of midnight.

Although there is rarely any trouble on New Year’s Eve in Scilly, license regulations require premises granted extensions to employ door personnel.

The difficulty in securing staff with the specialist SIA training was recognised three years ago and a course was organised on St Mary’s. But some of those trained have now left Scilly, while others are choosing not to work on New Year’s Eve.

But partygoers will still be able to dance into 2013 at Tregarthen’s Hotel.

Their £75 a head gala dinner was cancelled by general manager, Carina Luscombe, today. Carina says bookings were low but says the dance floor will be open and the bar will be stocked up ready for the St Mary’s based ska, band Scaramanga.
