Council To Restart Meetings With Duchy

Representatives from the Duchy and Council will meet on a regular basis to discuss island issues.

The Council has a Duchy Liaison committee but Councillor David Pearson told the recent Full Council meeting that the last one was held over three years ago.

Vice chair Amanda Martin wanted to know who was on it.

Members have been told that the current Land Steward, Chris Gregory, has more autonomy than previous post holders. Cllr Dudley Mumford queried what that meant and was told that the Duchy Secretary, the Duchy Chief Executive, used to attend formal meetings but won’t have to in the future.

Chairman Mike Hicks said that the Duchy had worked with the Council on projects like the St Mary’s Harbour improvements and their staff met officers regularly, but members wanted meetings, “through democratic channels.”

It is hoped that the first of the sessions will take place next month.
