Student Council Tour Porthcressa Site

Students touring the Porthcressa site

Members of the student council, the committee of pupils from the Five Islands School, who feedback students’ views and opinions to school management and the Council, have been given a preview of the new Porthcressa library.

The tour was arranged by construction contractors Kier Western. Their site manager Mary Jane Allen wanted to get feedback from the youngsters, a group which the Council believes will be key users of the new facility.

Mary Jane said the pupils were very enthusiastic and it was great to hear their responses after the visit. She said they appeared to be ‘enthralled’ by the new library and also checked out other parts of the development such as the seating pods on the sea front.

But she said the lift inside the library proved the most popular part of the scheme with the youngsters.

Mary Jane said she is delighted that the new building received such positive feedback, as older islanders’ views have been mixed, although as the projects nears completion she says people are warming to it because they can see how the scheme has come together.
