Concern Over Buzza Square Closure

Some St Mary’s residents are unhappy over the closure of the Buzza Square to vehicles for surfacing over the weekend.

The fencing-off of the roadway leaving a narrow access path, showed a lack of consideration for residents, some locals claim.

That’s the view of Emma Hutchins who says the restriction prevented her grandmother from getting around on her golf buggy.

Emma says she was concerned over what would have happened if there had been an emergency. And although she says the Porthcressa work looks nice and staff are working hard, more thought should have been given to neighbours.

Diana Mompoloki who is managing the Porthcressa regeneration project for the Council says the work requiring the blocking off of the road should be completed today.

Diana says the emergency services were fully informed about access limitations and plans were in place to deal with a medical response if needed.
