Man Receives Fine For Buying Alcohol For Minors

A St Mary’s resident has received an £80 on-the-spot fine after admitting buying alcohol on behalf of underage children.

The male, who is just over 18 years old, was identified after police found discarded bottles of a specialist, unusual beer scattered around the scene of recent vandalism to the bird hide in the Higher Moors. Police suspected that youths damaged it.

The brand is only available at the Co-op. Staff told police that the drink hasn’t sold well so officers used CCTV footage to identify who had purchased it and visited and questioned a male who bought three cases of the drink.

He admitted supplying it to underage drinkers.

Scilly police are warning that knowingly buying drink on behalf of minors is a criminal offence.
